Annual Inflation in the OECD Area Remained Stable at 2.2% in June 2007

Consumer prices in the OECD area rose by 2.2% in the year to June 2007, unchanged compared with the year to May 2007. On a monthly basis, the price level rose by 0.1% in June 2007 after a 0.4% increase between April and May 2007.

Consumer prices for energy rose by 2.9% year-on-year in June, compared with 2.7% in May. Consumer prices for food were up by 3.4% year-on-year in June, unchanged compared with May. Excluding food and energy, consumer prices rose by 2.0% in the year to June, after 2.1% in May 2007.

In the euro area, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was up by 1.9% in the year to June, unchanged compared with the year to May. Month-on-month, the HICP in the euro area rose by 0.1% between May and June after 0.2% between April and May 2007. Excluding food and energy, the year-on-year rise in the HICP in the euro area amounted to 1.9% in June, unchanged compared with May.

In the United States, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.7% over the twelve months to June, unchanged compared with the year to May.

In Japan, consumer prices were down by 0.2% in June over a year earlier, after no change in the year to May.

Over the twelve months to June, consumer prices rose by 2.4% in the United Kingdom, 2.2% in Canada, 1.8% in Germany, 1.7% in Italy and 1.2% in France.
