Small Business Segment’s Continued Growth Will Hinge on Technology
added: 2008-02-08

In the next decade, small businesses will continue to flourish - and technology will be a huge factor fueling that growth, according to the 2007 Intuit – IFTF Future of Small Business Report.

The report states that small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) will face increasing competitive pressure to embrace new technologies or risk losing market share to more technology-savvy firms.

"You can't hide from technology anymore. These days, businesses need to stay on the technological cutting edge just to keep up with their competitors," said Jeff Connally, president and CEO of CMIT Solutions, a provider of technology and IT services to the local SMB market. "Our objective has always been to give small business owners the technology they need to keep their business successful at an affordable price."

According to the Intuit – IFTF Future of Small Business Report, three technology trends will shape the SMB market over the next decade:

* Mobility - Advances in technology will allow greater flexibility around when, where and how work is done, allowing small business managers to run their businesses on their time and on their own terms.
* The Web - Leveraging emerging digital infrastructure and Web services will extend the ability of small businesses to build complex online applications and create, communicate and share information.
* Customer Acquisition 24/7 - Small businesses will need to shift their marketing methods to provide customers and prospects with the right information, in the right context, at the right time.

A growing population of small, technology-reliant businesses has entered into managed services contracts with CMIT Solutions, fueling its expansion.

"As the SMB market grows, we do too. Their need for IT support is greater because they are typically slower to adapt to new advances," Connally said.
