The 11th annual Online Fraud Report from CyberSource Corporation highlights significant shifts in global online sales and fraud management. This year's survey of eCommerce merchants shows that among U.S./Canadian merchants accepting international orders, 21% of their online orders came from abroad, up from 17% the year before and 8% in 2005. This steady growth is supported by dramatic progress in meeting the increased fraud challenge of international orders, with 50% lower fraud rates and 30% lower order rejection rates.

The world's mobile worker population will pass the one billion mark this year and grow to nearly 1.2 billion people – more than a third of the world's workforce – by 2013. According to a new forecast from IDC, the most significant gains will be in the emerging economies of Asia/Pacific, where a strong economic recovery and new interest in unified communications will drive healthy growth in all aspects of mobility spending.

Aid to developing countries in 2010 will reach record levels in dollar terms after increasing by 35 per cent since 2004. But it will still be less than the world’s major aid donors promised five years ago at the Gleneagles and Millennium + 5 summits. Though a majority of countries will meet their commitments, the underperformance of several large donors means there will be a significant shortfall, according to a new OECD review.

Seasonally-adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the OECD area rose by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 0.6% in the previous quarter. Real GDP grew strongly in the United States and Japan by 1.4% and 1.1%, respectively. By contrast, GDP growth in the euro area slowed to 0.1% in the fourth quarter compared to 0.4% in the third quarter.

Mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity in the global technology sector grew for the third consecutive quarter in Q4 2009, bringing optimism for continued growth in 2010, according to a new report by Ernst & Young. Global technology M&A update found that deals done in the technology sector rose by 13% to 553 in the quarter, compared with 488 in Q309. This followed consecutive rises in Q309 and Q209, after bottoming out in Q109 (at 405).
