Growth in merchandise trade exports in the Group of Seven countries slowed to a seasonally adjusted 0.4%, in the second quarter of 2007 compared with the previous quarter while import volumes fell 0.4%. On a year-on-year basis, G7 trade volumes continued to grow at lower rates, with both exports and imports up 2.3%.

Fitch Ratings says in a new report that the covered bonds market continued to grow over the last year, whereby the typical covered bond is moving away from a standard public sector Pfandbrief, issued under German legislation, to become a more international secured debt instrument, funding pools of mortgage loans and issued outside any dedicated legislation.

A new report by Merrill Lynch (MER) Global Research says that assets under management in Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) could grow more than four-fold by 2011, surging from US$1.9 trillion to US$7.9 trillion. The research report, titled “The overflowing bathtub, the running tap and SWFs,” states that a massive build up of reserves at central banks is fueling this rapid growth, led by China, Russia and the Middle East.

Credit Suisse Index Co., Inc., released its latest industry research, Analyzing Past Market Turmoil and Outcome for Hedge Funds, which has found that hedge funds are able to recover quickly after market turmoil. The most recent research examines the effects of five crises on hedge funds and world financial markets, finding that hedge funds, if affected, were able to return to positive returns quicker than global equity or debt markets.

Leaded petrol is sold legally in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. Many of these problems can be traced back to a common Soviet legacy that includes polluting industries, inadequate infrastructure, and outdated environmental management approaches.
